A straight reception desk is clean and direct, ideal for welcoming visitors in compact spaces. An L-shaped configuration adds work surface and storage for the receptionist. A two-level desk combines a tall front panel, which gives the workstation privacy, with a lower service surface at the visitor's level. The choice depends on the size of the lobby and visitor traffic.
As a reference, the inner work surface is usually at desk height, around 75 cm (30 in), so the receptionist can work comfortably seated, and the public service counter between 1.05 and 1.10 m (41-43 in), so visitors can rest documents while standing. It is also worth including a lower section to serve people in wheelchairs.
