FAQs

What You Should Know About Guest Chairs.

We answer the most common questions about guest chairs: styles, bases and use in reception areas.

How many guest chairs should go in front of a desk? +

The most common setup is two chairs in front of executive and leadership desks, and one at task workstations or compact private offices. As a reference, leave about one meter (3 ft) of clearance between the edge of the desk and whatever is behind the chairs so people can sit down and get up comfortably. If you host meetings with more people, consider adding a side table or a small conference table.

Guest chair with a sled base, legs or a swivel base? +

A sled base, like those on Nuvola, Merino, Verona, San Pietro and Stella, is stable and does not shift with use. Chairs with wooden legs, such as Marena and Visitante Cómodo, have a warm, residential look. Swivel chairs with height adjustment, such as Martese and Tivoli, work well in collaboration areas where people move around more.

Do you have stackable or folding guest chairs? +

Yes. Forli is stackable: the chairs stack on top of one another to free up space. Allegra is a folding chair with a flip-up seat, and its frames nest one inside another. They are practical for training rooms, multipurpose areas or events, where the number of seats changes with the activity.

Can a guest chair have lumbar support? +

Yes. Most of our guest chairs have an ergonomic curve built into the backrest, and the guest version of San Pietro is the only one with adjustable lumbar support. It is a good choice when visits are long, such as interviews, one-on-one meetings or customer service.

Which guest chairs stand up best to heavy use? +

Polypropylene chairs, such as Forli, Genova and Stella, are low-maintenance and easy to clean, so they work well in high-traffic areas. Chairs upholstered in veg-leather, such as Merino and Verona, can also be wiped clean with a cloth and keep a more formal look.
